What is idolatry? Idolatry is when a person loves and worships anything above the God of Israel, the God of the universe. God tells us in His Word the Bible that we are to love Him with all of our heart, soul, mind, and strength. This is important because He is worthy of all our love. It is also important because whatever we love, we put first in our lives. I don’t know about you, but whatever I love I tend to talk about more than anything els. Often I find myself talking about other things more than I talk about Him! If I love God, I will exalt Him above everything in my life.
So, question, do you talk to others about Jesus much? If not, perhaps you don’t love Him very much. If this is the case, then pray that He would help you love Him more! Pray this often and mean it! “Lord Jesus, I acknowledge that I do not love you with all of me. Please forgive me and help me to love you more!”
What does it look like to love Him? When I love Him I will be in love with His Word. I will be in love with fellowshipping with Him through prayer. I will love telling others about Him. I will love watching Him do things in other people’s live to draw them to Himself. In short, I will grow to be in love with His ways!
And why not love Him? Without Him you would not exist! When we turned away from Him, Jesus came and died so that we could be saved! When we were dead in our sin, He came after us first to rescue us, we didn’t go after Him first! Peace comes front Him! Joy comes from a relationship with Him! Everything good is found in Him! He is returning to make all things new and good again on this earth and desires for you to be a part of it! Run to Him! Love Him! He first loved us, now let us love Him first!
